SCB (The Swedish Statistics Authority) estimates that about 36% of the population has some form and degree of disability. Almost 11% have more than one disability at a time
When designing a course, we must take into account accessibility for four main categories of disabilities; vision, hearing, cognitive and motor.

Why we should create accessible courses comes from a greater understanding of the importance of creating an accessible environment, which is achieved through Universal Design.

One definition of universal design:

"The design of products and environments to be used by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design".

Experience shows that everyone benefits from the features of universal design. In education we adopted the concept as Universal design for learning. When designing a course we needs to consider accessibility for four major categories of disability; visual, hearing, cognitive and motor.

This module is a self-paced introduction to how to design with accessibility in mind.

After this module the participant should be able to:

give suggestions for changes to a course room design based on accessibility

This module is self-pased with some exercises for self reflection. You will integrate with follow learners in discussions. Its important that you engage in discussions and do the exercises.

Examination

There will be a knowledge check quiz at the end of the module.

The quiz is not graded but is important for success in the rest of the course.
